The Hardest Kind of Love

Love is not measured by what we defend,
Nor by the wounds we try to mend.
Sometimes the heart, though full of care,
Must let the truth breathe its own air.
For those we love must find their way,
Through truths we cannot wish away.
And though it hurts to watch them fall,
We cannot live their lives at all.
Perhaps the hardest love to give
Is letting others learn to live.

The Quiet Strength of Letting Go

Not every battle must be won,
Not every shadow needs the sun.
Some doors are closed, not out of spite,
But so the soul can welcome light.
The heart may ache for what has been,
For words unsaid and things unseen.
Yet peace is not a prize we claim
By keeping score or placing blame.
To walk away need not be pride,
Nor proof that love itself has died.
Sometimes the strongest thing we do
Is leave what hurts, without hurting too.
And when the past calls out our name,
We need not answer just the same.
For strength is knowing when to stay,
And having peace enough to walk away.

The Illusion of Being the Prize

Some wear their beauty like a crown,
And look upon the world as down.
Some count the hearts that seek their gaze,
Mistaking longing for their praise.
They think that love must kneel and plead,
That others exist to serve their need.
Yet admiration, loud and bright,
Can disappear like fading light.
For beauty bends beneath the years,
And pride grows lonely among its cheers.
No heart was born to beg or chase,
Nor earn its worth through someone’s grace.
The greatest gift is not to be
A prize for all the world to see.
But finding one whose heart is free,
Who stands beside you equally.
For love was never meant to prove
Who holds the power, who must move.
And those who see themselves the prize
May lose the love before their eyes.

The Weight of a Crown

Some mistake admiration for worth,
And desire for something rare.
Yet not every eye that follows
Sees a treasure standing there.
Beauty may invite attention,
But character earns respect.
And sometimes those who love us most
Shield us from truths we should reflect.
Perhaps the greatest illusion
Is believing we can do no wrong,
Because the world still finds us charming,
And familiar voices sing our song.
But love is not endless applause,
Nor is loyalty the denial of truth.
Even the finest crown loses meaning
When pride overshadows virtue.
For when the admirers drift away,
And every flattering voice grows still,
What remains is not how much we're wanted,
But who we are, and who we choose to be.
